This is a fabulous vintage Czech jewellery set – a necklace, brooch and earrings in fancy silvertone filigree with sparkling amber-coloured and clear Czech crystals. It has a great deal of sparkle (even in daylight) that was difficult to capture.
The large centre stones in the brooch and necklace are open-backed while the rest of the crystals are foil-backed for added brilliance. They are all prong-set and super quality. The settings have plenty of dimension and height (see side view pic) and the silvertone has an applied blackening to enhance its texture.
The necklace is a nice collar length with a decorative front section spanning a good showy width of 3″ (7.5 cm). Fancy flower-embossed links make up the back half of the necklace, closing with a simple bolt-ring clasp.
The brooch is identical to the centre part of the necklace and has a brass-coloured c-clasp and pin. The same amber and clear crystals appear in the clip-on earrings.
The set is unmarked but is certainly Czech, and dates to the late 1930s/early ’40s.
Dimensions: Necklace – 15.25″ (39cm) long; Brooch – 1.25″ by 1 1/8″ (3.1 by 2.7 cm); Earrings – 0.75″ (1.8 cm) across.
It is unusual to find an actual matching set of Czech jewellery rather than pieces that just “work” together and this set is in very good vintage condition. There is some age-related wear to the prongs, small jump rings and necklace clasp but not enough to detract – overall, the silvering is remarkably bright and intact. There is a miniscule nibble on the necklace centre stone, mentioned for accuracy and not noticeable to the naked eye. The crystals are otherwise in excellent undamaged condition with their foil backings intact. The clasps are in good working order and the clip-ons hold comfortably and securely.
