This is an original and unusual vintage rhinestone brooch by the much-copied Weiss – just like a sunflower, but green. There are actually three colours of green – apple-green navettes for petals, olivine rounds and navettes for the flower centre and leaves, and deep green rounds at the base of the stem.
The flower head is not flat but sculpted so the top is further back, giving the flower more depth and dimension. It is supported by a rope-like stem of twisted beaded wire with a cluster of leaves on one side and a single leaf on the other, with three different-sized dark green stones giving a nice finishing touch to the end.
The rhinestones are all foiled and prong-set, and much sparklier than I was able to capture in the pictures. The setting is goldtone and fitted with a rollover safety clasp. The brooch is a full 10 cm (4″) and 5 cm (2″) wide and is marked WEISS on the reverse. It is heavy and solidly constructed – a quality piece of vintage jewellery.
It is in very good vintage condition with no damage to the stones or setting, and very little wear to the goldtone – just a small amount on the back. The long pin stem has a kink in the middle and is a little wobbly in the hinge, but is totally secure.
