This is a large vintage 1940s sterling silver brooch with echoes of Art Deco, so it most likely dates to the early 1940s.
The design resembles a rosette with swags and long flower stems extending out from the bottom. It is set with deep green rhinestones – baguettes at the centre and round cuts in the flowers – all unfoiled and prong-set. The silver has developed a rainbow patina on the back of the brooch and inside the petals, which will clean away if desired. It is fitted with a rollover safety clasp.
Dimensions/Weight
The brooch is 7 cm high by 4.25 cm wide (2.8″ by 1.7″) and quite heavy, weighing 20 grams (0.7 oz).
Marks
It is stamped “STERLING” on the pin stem.
Condition
This brooch is in good vintage condition with the only issue being a chip a stone in the left flower. This is not particularly noticeable as the rhinestones are large and deep. There is no other damage and only very minimal surface scratching. The clasp works well, holding securely.
