This is an usually delicate 1950s festoon-style vintage necklace set with a multitude of tiny aurora borealis rhinestones – just 3 mm in diameter. The stones have a primarily blue-green sparkle with glints of purples, pinks and gold. They are set in cups with millegrain-effect rims and despite their tiny size are securely prong set, not glued.
Altogether there are fifteen linked sections at the front, connecting to a paper-clip style chain at the back, so the necklace has plenty of flexibility and comfort. The setting and chain are silvertone and from the complete lack of wear, probably rhodium plated.
Marks: No maker’s or other marks.
Length: 42.5 cm (16.75″), half set with rhinestones. Depth: The largest festoon at the centre is just over 3 cm high (1.25″).
Condition: This lovely vintage necklace is in excellent vintage condition with no missing or replaced rhinestones. There is noticeable wear to the bolt-ring clasp but otherwise, no wear at all – the setting and chain are in mint condition.
