This is a dazzling 1950′s vintage brooch that delivers a lot of sparkle (very difficult to capture in pictures) thanks to wonderful foiled clear Austrian crystal rhinestones – very bright, white and sparkly.
The crystals range in size and are prong set in cups at the end of wires radiating out from the centre, where there is a single (and the largest) crystal. The wires are slightly flexible so the stones can be re-positioned a little if desired.
The setting is a silvertone-coated base metal fitted with a rollover safety clasp. It is 2″ wide by 1.75″ high (5 cm x 4.5 cm) and marked “MADE IN AUSTRIA.”
It is not not in the best of condition but has some saving graces. There is quite a lot of wear to the silvertone, especially at the sides and back, and one of the smallest stones is not sitting fully in its cup. The silvering is in better shape at the front, though with some dark spots. Personally I don’t think the wear detracts from the overall impact – the crystals are in fantastic condition and tend to outdazzle the faults. The clasp is in working order.
