This is a fun little vintage brooch featuring a horse or donkey cart filled with flowers, driven by a man in a big hat.
The flowers are oversized and almost all the brooch is enamelled with the horse being brown and the rest a variety of pastel colours. The wheel and cart top are set with marcasites. The enamel is simple but flooded into the crevices creating nice shadow effects, and there are nice little details such as the horse’s harness and dainty hooves.
The metal is silvertone, and the brooch is fitted with a safety clasp. It is 3.7 cm wide and 3 cm high (1.5″ by 1 1/8″). Dating to the 1950s/early ’60s it is not marked or signed at all.
This brooch is in very good vintage condition with a little dark area on the man’s face but otherwise no damage or missing marcasites – the enamel is bright and intact and the clasp works well.
