This is a bright and pretty Art Deco silver brooch set with “rainbow” crystals - clear crystals striped through with ‘watery’ bands of rich deep pink, green and blue – set in 835 purity silver.
It has one very large oval facetted crystal at the centre surrounded by five smaller crystals top and bottom. At each end is a medium-sized crystal, set a little higher than the rest. The centre crystal has a liquidy kind of sparkle while the rest have a surprisingly bright and fiery sparkle even though they are open-backed, not foiled.
The centre crystal is held by four sizeable prongs while the rest are set in multi-pronged crown-like cups that allow some light play around the sides of the crystals.
The setting is 835 silver (a German silver standard) fitted with an old style safety clasp. The brooch measures 3.5 cm wide by 2.5 cm high (1 3/8″ by 1″) and is stamped “835″. There is no maker’s mark.
It is in very good vintage condition. The crystals are in tip-top shape with no chips, scuffing or other damage and the clasp is in good working order with a good sharp pin. It is somewhat tarnished – in need of a clean.
