This is a stunning vintage 1930s Czech necklace featuring fabulous cranberry-red glass crystals of various sizes. Cranberry is the nearest colour I can think of. The red is quite remarkable – very “juicy,” bright and vibrant but with a rich depth of colour too.The front section of the necklace is made up of five sections of large and medium wire-linked crystals embellished with very ornate bead caps and filigree tubes that elongate and soften their look so the sections flow into each other very nicely. The bead caps and tube spacers appear to be brass and not gilded at any time – their colour is the colour of the metal.
The back half of the necklace has five different sizes of crystals, also wire-linked, graduating down in size towards a brass bolt-ring clasp at the back. The largest bead in the decorative front section is 1.3 cm in diameter (just over 0.5″) and the smallest, 0.5 cm (3/16″).
The overall length of the necklace is 42.5 cm end to end (16.75″) – shorter than average but not quite choker length. It is not marked or signed.
The necklace is in very good to excellent vintage condition with only a very few minor (not noticeable) nibbles in the crystals. The facets are crisp and virtually free of scuffing. The wire links, bead caps and filigree spacers are somewhat dulled but not discoloured or spotted – they would most likely brighten up considerably (if liked) with a sensitive clean. The clasp works well.
