Vintage Czech Filigree & Black Glass Flower Brooch
This pretty flower-like vintage Czech brooch is quite simple and almost modern-looking compared to most Czech jewellery though it is an older piece, dating to the 1920s.
It is made up of six lacy filigree flowers arranged in a circle, with contrasting smooth “petals” arching out from a large black glass bead at the centre. The bead is fixed with a pin, with the pin head forming a dainty gold spot at its centre.
The metal is a gilded base metal with a warm ‘18ct gold’ colour. The brooch has a c-clasp and over-long pin stem, suggesting it may date to earlier than 1920. It is 2″ (5 cm) in diameter, 5/8″ (1.5 cm) high, and unmarked.
There is some wear to the bumps at the centre of the filigree flowers and a slight amount to the raised tops of the smooth petals which is not very noticeable (dark areas in the pics are mostly shadows) but the majority of the gilding is very bright and intact with just one little spot of verdigris on the top left flower that will clean away. The glass bead is undamaged and good tension in the pin keeps it securely in the clasp. Overall, this pretty and very wearable brooch is in good to very good vintage condition.
