This is an elegant and wearable piece of vintage jewellery – a glass crystal necklace with a lovely clasp. The beads are a smoky or taupe shade of grey with a hint of washed-out khaki, and sometimes look pale, sometimes quite dark. They are not coated in any way and have softly rounded facets rather than sharp facets, which gives them a liquidy glow rather than a high sparkle.
They are hand-knotted on a similar-coloured cord, usually a sign of quality. The necklace is 18″ (46 cm) long and has a fancy slide-in ball clasp of white metal covered all over in diamonte.
The clasp is just a little larger than the beads, which are 7 mm (just over 0.25″) in diameter, and makes a nice bright contrast to the grey. The slide in part is virtually hidden when closed so it can be worn as an accent feature at the front or side for a dressier look. It most likely dates to the late 1950s, early 1960s.
This necklace is in very good vintage condition with no damage, noticeable wear or flaws – all the diamontes are present.
