This is an unusual 1950s vintage Japanese three-strand necklace of quality art glass beads in various shades of green – a pale peking green, aqua-turquoise, dark green and grass green. In theory the greens should not work together but make a striking combination.
The beads are in various sizes with different shapes and textures – fluted, dimpled and smooth - and include grass and dark-green muranos with black swirls. The very dark beads at the front are actually large dark-green muranos – they did not photograph well. All the beads are interspersed with large clear spacers, also glass.
The necklace strands are connected to silvertone gathers with a hook and wire-linked extender chain, for an adjustable length. The necklace is 42cm (16.5″) long, measuring by the shortest strand. The hook is marked “JAPAN“.
The necklace is in good vintage condition with the only issue being lost silvertone/fuzzing on the wire links in the extender and hook chains – they are somewhat dark and dull. Otherwise, the silvertone on the hook and gathers is bright and intact (perhaps having a light rhodium plating) and the beads are undamaged with no chips or noticeable scuffing.
