This is a very small Art Nouveau brooch by the American firm, Watson Newell (later, Watson Company), with a crysanthemum flower design in cloisonné enamel. The brooch is sterling silver with a vermeil finish on the back, with the front edges showing as silver. The cloisonné wires are also gold tone. The entire surface is smooth and glossy, and the wires are bright and reflective, which was difficult to capture in the photos.
The brooch is fitted with a simple safety-pin style catch and due it’s tiny size, was probably worn at the neck.
Dimensions: 2.4 cm wide by 0.8 cm high (just under 1″ x 0.3″)
Marks: “GENUINE CLOISSONE” above the Watson maker’s mark of a pseudo-hallmark of a crown, “W” and lion (indistinct in this brooch) and “STERLING“.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with no damage to the enamel (white areas at the centre are enamel).
